A fast paced folk song describing the rainy season, saawan and the festival of teej that is celebrated with joyous abandon in Rajasthan, specially by the womenfolk. The celebrations are characterized by swinging on the heendo (a swing) and painting fragrant henna patterns on their palms as the women worship Gaur, or the goddess Parvati for the wellbeing of their husbands.
This presentation is based on the poetry of the prominent Sufi saint, Hazrat Amir Khusro from Itaawa in South Western Uttar Pradesh. Ali Maula is a hymn to the benevolent Maula, the sartaaj Qualandar.
Desert Symphony A musical interlude, featuring traditional musical instruments of the Manganiars. The instruments includKamaayacha,Dholak,Khartaal, Morchang,Dhol, Matakaa, Sataara, Sindhi Sarangi, Surinda, Alagoza, Bhapang, Murali, Tandura, Jaltaal, and Harmonium. All the musical instruments are tuned to a single scale and played together. Sri Karni Mata Ji temple is a 600 years old temple at Deshnoke, Rajasthan, India. Karni Maa Ji is an incarnation of Maa Parvati Ji. The peculiarity of this temple is that thousands of rats are worshipped here. The temple in its present form was completed in the early 20th century in late Mughal style by Maharaja Ganga Singh. This temple is dedicated to Karni Maa Ji. There is a legend that she prophesied the victory of Rao Bika. The rats are seen as holy, owing to the belief that the souls of the followers of Karni Maa are in these rats and thus they must be looked after. The huge silver gates to the temple, and the marble carvings are a "SEWA" by Maharaja Ganga Singh. Throughout the year pilgrims from anywhere come to pay religious tribute to Karni Maa. Outside Rajasthan she is respected and loved in areas like Punjab, Gujrat, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana. During Navratri thousands come to the temple on foot. If one of the rats is killed, it must be replaced with one made of solid gold.
